Water hyacinth is a noxious aquatic weed found on lakes, rivers, streams and irrigation canals in Sri Lanka. The plant native to South America and exotic plant to Sri Lanka, introduced as a ornamental plant and now naturalized almost all part of the country. Controlling the fast growing plant ineffective but plant has various properties can lead to development of new industries to get benefits from the Water hyacinth plant such as bio gas, animal food, medicinal remedies and raw material for some industries
