flowers of Long Bean "Maa Karal" plant
"Long Bean" or "Ma Karal"is a common vegetable in Sri Lanka, native to Asian countries and widely cultivated in Dry Zone and wet zone. It is closely related to the Green Bean and also has many varieties subspecies, and many hybrids. The plant grow as a vine and produce 30-50 cm long pods with about 20-25 seeds per each pod. The pods are use as a Cooking Vegetable and leaves are use as a mix leaf vegetable.
