Glory Lily, also known as Flame Lily, (Niyangala in Sinhalese) is one of the most dangerous poisonous plant in Sri Lanka as well as in the world. It is native plant to Africa India and Sri Lanka. Now naturalized throughout world as a herbs and or ornamental plant, because it's attractive inflorescence and valuable medicinal properties. In Sri Lanka, does not cultivate for ornamentation but some countries cultivate for ornamentation and herbal remedies. The plant commonly found in waste lands, back yards, scrubs or forest borders throughout dry zone or wet zone.
All parts of the plant are extremely poison to the human or animal. If ingestion of 10 grams of tubers is fatal to the life. Also, tubers used for suicide by people who have suicidal tendency. accidentally ingest by children or adults because the tubers are confuse with other plants in inadvertently use. In Ayurveda, Users should more careful when collecting the medicinal plants especially in kind of tubers because of still remains previous season's tubers of glory Lily even upper part of the plant was died.
