Native Bryony is a vine in the pumpkin family. It is called several names in the different countries such as Lollipop Climber, Marble vine, and Red-striped cucumber. The plant native to some Asian countries and some African countries. In Sri Lanka, it is threatened plant because of the human activities and rarely found in wild on forest borders,woodlands or disturbed areas in wet zone and dry zone. The plant is rare medicinal plant and can be cultivates on home gardens as it's dense colorful fruits production. The plants closely related to Gymnopetalum scabrum in the same family called "Wild Gourd Vine" so people often confused with the plant in Ayurvedic medicine. Native Bryony refer in Sri Lanka as "Red-striped cucumber" and in Sinhalese, bename various names in various regions such as Pasengilla, Wal Thitha Hondala, and Kotta Kekiri.
