Nelu or Nilla   is Sinhalese name for  'Strobilanthes flowers ' that a genus of flowering plant in Acanthaceae family native to Sri Lanka,India  and some other Asian countries. The genus Strobilanthes  includes 300 species, and about 35 species are found in Sri Lanka that 26 species of them  are endemic to Sri Lanka. These endemics are  only found in Horton plains in Central high Land which is one of the 8 world heritage sites in Sri Lanka.

Description
Nelu  Flowers or Strobilanthes Flowers are  bloom  only once every 12 or 14 years called type of 'Monocarpic' plants.  Plants growth as shrubs and flowers are color in purple, blue,  pink, white, yellow and Red.
